Wild Rice Pancake Breakfast

Sunday June 30
FREE ADMISSION
Breakfast $8, Lunch $5

So much excitement packed into one day!
Breakfast starts at 8am, and we have something for everyone! From the kids imagination station to listening to stories from revered veterans. We have something of interest for every age all to the backdrop of awesome airplanes!

Event Highlights Include:

North Memorial Air Care will have a helicopter, equipment and people to explain the various aspects of Medivac type flying.

DRONES DRONES DRONES! Northland Community & Technical College will have exciting Drone Building and Flying demonstrations where you can get hands on experience, flying safely in one of their netted areas, and learning about the fast growing field and types of careers available in Drone Technology. They are leading the industry in career development in this area. Known nationally, we’re honored to have them coming and making themselves available while they show us building and flying techniques! Fun!

Experimental Aircraft (Homebuilts)
The Aitkin Flyers is an EAA Chapter. That stands for Experimental Aircraft Association. Every plane ever built started out as an “experimental”. Many of our members have, or are currently building their own aircraft. Some are even creating their own designs from scratch. They’ve been flown around the U.S. and Alaska. There’s a lot of pride in our planes. Come and see them at the Fly-In.

AOPA’s Great Lakes Regional Representative will be flying in! He is a spokesman for the “You Can Fly” Initiative. People come from far and wide to hear Andy Miller speak. His insight, knowledge and humor leaves enthusiasm in his wake. He is a nationally recognized aviation educator; a lead representative in the FAA Safety Program, FAASTeam; an IMC Club leader for EAA Chapter 252 in Oshkosh, and a member of the National Association of Flight Instructors and the Society of Aviation and Flight Educators. He is also an aircraft owner and regularly flies Young Eagle and Angel Flight missions.

Wally Orsund is 1 of 3 remaining men of the original 2200 that served on the USS Alabama. He fought in WWII in both the Atlantic and the Pacific, and boy, does he have a story to tell. Don’t miss it. He and other Veterans will be talking with us. We are honored to interview people from all branches and campaigns. Many of our own Aitkin Flyers are Veterans too. 11:30 near the Wild Rice Pancake Hangar.

Richard Coccie, Lt. Col. USAF (Ret) will share stories of his experience as an Electronic Warfare Officer on the B-52 G and H Stratofortress, The 8 turbojet engine bomber is capable of carrying up to 70,000 pounds of weapons, and has a typical combat range of more than 8,800 miles without aerial refueling.

Terry Tichenor, F-15 Pilot USAF (Ret) will be talking about his flying career in military service over combat areas such as Vietnam. We’re very excited to hear of his experiences and what it was like from the flightdeck of a modern fighter.

Vintage Vehicles will be on display as they have been a big part of our Fly-In for many years. If you have a Classic Car, Antique Tractor, Snowmobile or Motorcycle that you’re proud of, bring it along! We will have people ready to direct you to parking as you arrive. We really admire the craftsmanship and dedication that people put into their vehicles, much like we do with our planes. It’s an experience to be enjoyed and passed on to future generations. Thank you for sharing them with us!

This international group of aviation professionals has gained so much momentum in recent years, that their international conference held each year at different major cities, is like the super bowl. At the first conference in 1990, they had 150 people, but by this year they had 4,500 from 33 countries where they gave 146 scholarships totaling $875,065! They are a force to be reckoned with. Many men join as well because their activities and benefits offered are phenomenal. Stop by to meet them and find out more.

The Minnesota 99’s are a beloved group of enthusiastic lady pilots. It’s a national group with a strong local presence that includes many of our hometown heros. They have done great charity work, flying blood and other items that were crucially needed. They do Aerospace Education and also mentor and give scholarships to help others achieve their dream of flying, but the most notable thing about this group is their upbeat attitude and their fun social events. They’re loved dearly, and we’re really excited they’re coming this year. Wait till you meet them!

The 99’s do beautiful air markings like the one seen here. They donate their labor and expertise. It takes about 2 days to create this work of art. It’s seen from the air and is designed to point to true north. One is being put at the Brainerd Airport this spring, and one at the Aitkin Airport next spring after we have new pavement laid down!
